The best band I have seen all year
– Gilles Peterson (2023)
Alogte Oho is the number one Frafra gospel artist from within the explosive music scene of Bolgatanga in Northern Ghana. His music is a heady and groovy mix of highlife beats, psychedelic riffs, mesmeric horns, beguiling synths and soul-drenched vocals. He is accompanied by his powerful female choir, the Sounds of Joy, comprised of Lizzy Amaliyenga, Patricia Adongo and Florence Adooni – all fantastic and revered gospel performers in their own rights.
Their second album “O Yinne!” was a sleeper hit towards the end of 2023 with those in the know, finding it’s way into the record boxes of seasoned selectors around the world and exposing the joyous “fra-fra” sound from Northern Ghana to an international audience.
Alogte’s incredible live show wow-ed audiences across Europe’s best festivals last summer and we’re over the moon the invite them to close the Square Stage on the Saturday night for their Scottish debut, right after they play Glasto’s West Holts stage in a televised slot the weekend before.
In classic Kelburn fashion we present another hotly-tipped band in Scotland for the first time to headline the Square Stage, following the likes of Ibibio Sound Machine, Hiatus Kaiyote, Soil & Pimp Session and Akala. This will be a show for books, we guarantee it!
