Barbe Rousse’ is essentially a bedroom project conducted by multi-instrumentalist Alasdair Kelly who writes, records, produces and mixes the music but has a wonderful bunch of musicians joining him for live situations – Ben Watt (Bass), Thian Wehmeyer (Keys) and David Burns (Drums). Alasdair met the rest of the band at Napier University.
Their music has been described as ‘gorgeous, woozy, psychedelic-pop, much like lying in the best bubble bath ever’ as well as ‘a cocktail of psychedelic soul, jazz, and rock’. They just released their debut album on Double A-Side Records entitled ‘Misc. Muses’ which was warmly received and made several ‘Album of the Year’ lists including Mo’ Fidelity Records album of the year.
Since the band was formed they have had a blast gigging around the central belt playing at venues such as the Hug and Pint, Sneaky Pete’s, the Old Hairdressers, BLOC, Leith Depot and the 13th Note. Inspiration comes in the form of Tame Impala, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Connan Mockasin, Temples, the Mighty Boosh, Fleet Foxes, Flyte, Vulfpeck, Toro y Moi, Charles Bradley and plenty more.
