Norfolk-born Hailey Beavis is a songwriter and artist living in Edinburgh. Her music maps the journey through the surrealism of childhood, stretching into insightful and vividly captured songs that deal with love, loss and desire, with an overarching sense of self reliance and perseverance. The tradition of folk and storytelling is evident in Beavis’s stand-out lyrics, which are full of narrative, imagery and description.
Hailey Beavis’s debut album I’ll Put You Where the Trombone Slides was released on OK Pal Records in November.
“Where do you put the unresolved?” Beavis asks. “I like the idea that all this emotion is perpetually suspended in the act of the trombone being played. It’s quite a surreal thought, but it’s comforting to me. There are no trombones on the album though, so if you’ve come here looking for brass, I’m not your girl.”
“a sophisticated pop palette, which suits her malleable girlish soprano… lithe yelps, chanting multi-tracked backing vocals and brooding electro pop arrangements.” ★★★★ – The Scotsman
“her greatest power is her all-at-once folk/country/pop chops, and the way she’s able to adapt her voice, chameleon-like, to the mood of each song.” – The Skinny
