The Positive Experience are an experimental band fronted by genderpunk poet and MC Jolly Abacus (Bam Jam).
The band formed in Dec 2018 for a one off performance to fundraise for Edinburgh’s beloved Forest Cafe. But continued performing throughout 2019 and have appeared in support of multiple causes including Glasgow’s Stanstead 15 solidarity concert, Extinction Rebellion, Project Play and Edinburgh Girls Rock School as well as a featured record on the forthcoming Love Music Hate Racism compilation album. They are a band that hold groove and message in equally high regard and have become a strong figure of Edinburgh’s underground.
The band members hail from all over the globe and they approach songwriting with a method of improvisation and collaboration. These pan-global influences shine through in their raucous live sets, ranging from cutting and insightful spoken word to dream-rock, funk, soul and live hip hop.
Featuring a dream team of Edinburgh music scene up-and-comers including thicc basslines from Mischa “Scadubadub” Stevens (The Moonlands, Nimbus Sextet, Jamboree); the capable hands of veteran drummer Alex Maragos (Omniah, aL_0ne) arrangements and expert keys at the fingers of maestro Artem Kobeletskyy (For The Birds); composition and guitar based grooves from Kit “Dad” Bowen (House of Wax, EndlessGrooves); the voice and skill of seasoned multi-instrumentalist and flamenco singer David Salvador (Alba Flamenca, StepItUp Soundsystem); the dream-cast voice of vocalist Emma Henderson; with vox and percussion performed by Steph Ward. This is not one to miss.
This will be a particularly special one for +EXP as a group of humans. Many of whom are long term supporters Kelburn Garden Party, who have dreamed of playing at the festival. They will be pulling out all the stops to make this landmark performance on their journey as a family and band a belter.
Expect a pure moment as a conscious local band with community at their heart come of age amongst an intimate crowd of dear friends from all walks of life.”
